MOYA goes to South Africa

We had had a few changes to our group for this tour to South Africa as Jean-Sebastien was awaiting the birth of his little girl and Francesco was passing an important exam in Italy at the same time. We were lucky to be joined by a new quartet member, Maxime Chevrot playing with us for the first time as well as an old collegue of mine, Tony Boorer, Pricipal trombone of the Orchestra in Durban. Maxime has subsequently become a full time member of the quartet.

We began our tour with a stop at the Cairo Airport.

We decided to try out our trio repertoire as we had one trio concert on our tour. We met some very kind German tourists who took some nice photo's of us. The only open place in the airport was the children's area. We were a bit apprehensive as the response we would receive as we didn't have permission to perform. We began to play and soon there was a crowd of people surrounding us. We noticed certain security guards passed us a few times, we had become quite an attraction. We thought there was trouble as one of them began speaking into his radio. Soon a group of security guards approached, we stopped playing expecting the worst and were quite surprised when they motioned for us to continue playing! All in all the airport staff were very nice and interested in what we were doing.
